The past year has been tough on small businesses working to stay afloat through the COVID-19 pandemic. This has been especially true for Black American owned small businesses. A recent survey of small businesses by Goldman Sachs reports that, more than any other demographic, the Black American business community has been slow to recover, with 30% of respondents stating a pre-COVID business recovery of 25% or less. As we enter Black History Month, it’s important to consider opportunities to strengthen this community.

Women’s Equality Day is August 26th—Unison celebrates every day by fully supporting small businesses and other socio-economic set-asides including Women-Owned Small Businesses. Recently the certification process for Women-Owned Small Businesses (WOSB) and Economically Disadvantaged WOSBs (EDWOSBs) has changed. These updated regulations make it easier for qualified small businesses to participate in the WOSB Federal Contracting Program while still maintaining the integrity of the certification process. With these changes we expect even more WOSB will join our vast network of certified Sellers at Unison Marketplace.
